Big Red Consulting Pricing: Excel to OFX and IIF Costs
No account needed for your first 3 conversions. We never store your bank login.
Big Red Consulting sells single-purpose Excel add-ins for QuickBooks, priced per product as a yearly subscription. The Excel to OFX/QFX/QBO Converter, the one that produces .qbo files, costs $79 for the first year and $69 a year to renew. The IIF Transaction Creator is $139 then $119, and the Pro edition is $169 then $149. Every one of them is an add-in that requires Microsoft Excel for Windows, so there is no Mac option and no browser option.
That last point decides the purchase more often than the price does. These are not web tools. They install into Excel on a Windows PC, and your data has to already be sitting in a worksheet before the add-in can do anything with it. If you are pricing a way to turn bank CSV files into QuickBooks imports, the figures below are the honest comparison, including the places where Big Red is the cheaper answer.
How much does Big Red Consulting cost?
Each product is bought on its own and renewed on its own. Prices below are the vendor's list prices, read from the product pages in September 2026. The first-year price includes the first year of updates and basic support; the renewal price is the annual extension.
| Product | First year | Renewal | What it outputs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Excel to OFX/QFX/QBO Converter | $79 | $69 | .ofx, .qfx and .qbo |
| IIF Transaction Creator | $139 | $119 | .iif for QuickBooks Desktop |
| IIF Transaction Creator Pro | $169 | $149 | .iif, plus profiles and mapping |
| QIF to IIF Converter | $99 | listed separately | .iif from Quicken files |
| OFX/QFX/QBO to IIF Converter | $99 | listed separately | .iif from bank files |
| Transaction Creator Pro and List Importer bundle | $189 | listed separately | bundle |
| Accountant bundle | $409 | listed separately | bundle |
| QuickBooks Import Tools bundle | $419 | listed separately | bundle |
Optional premium technical support is sold on top: $39 a year alongside the Excel to OFX Converter and $49 alongside the IIF Transaction Creator. Annual extensions across the catalog run from $49 to $359 depending on the product. If you buy more than one year at a time, the vendor's annual pages state: "Purchase two or more years together and get 15% off the second and subsequent years."
Is Big Red Consulting a subscription or a one-time purchase?
It is a subscription. Every product renews yearly, and the renewal is cheaper than the first year rather than free. An extension runs "for one year starting either from Annual key purchase date or your current Good Through date, whichever is later", so renewing early adds to your existing term instead of resetting it. The extension covers basic support and product updates.
Big Red does not publish what the add-in does once a key lapses, and we have not tested it, so treat continued use after expiry as an open question worth asking their support before you buy. What is documented is that updates and support stop.
Does the Excel to OFX Converter work on a Mac?
No. The product page is explicit: "This product is an Excel add-in and requires Excel for Windows 2003 - 2019/365." There is no Mac build and no web version. The IIF Transaction Creator carries the same requirement, with a slightly wider Excel range of 2003 through 2021/365. A Mac user has to run Windows in a virtual machine or use a different tool entirely.
Does Big Red Consulting work with QuickBooks Online?
Partly, and it depends on the product. The Excel to OFX/QFX/QBO Converter targets QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop and Quicken, because .qbo files upload to all of them. The IIF Transaction Creator is QuickBooks Desktop only: it lists US Pro and Premier 2000 through 2024 and Enterprise through 24.0, and QuickBooks Online cannot import IIF files at all.
That split matters when you are choosing between the two. If your client is on QuickBooks Online, the $139 IIF product is the wrong purchase no matter how good it is, and the $79 converter is the only one of the pair that helps. We cover what the format can and cannot carry in our guide to IIF files in QuickBooks.
What does the Big Red Consulting trial include?
Both add-ins ship a fully working trial capped at 100 transactions. The vendor describes it as being able to "export up to 100 financial transactions to IIF files for import into QuickBooks" before activation is required. That is a genuinely useful trial, more generous than the ten-transaction caps common elsewhere in this category, and enough to convert a real month of a small account end to end before you pay.
What Big Red Consulting costs over three years
Because renewals are cheaper than year one, the three-year figure is the fairer way to compare. These totals assume one user, list price, no multi-year discount and no premium support.
| Product | Year 1 | Years 2 and 3 | Three-year total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Excel to OFX/QFX/QBO Converter | $79 | $69 each | $217 |
| IIF Transaction Creator | $139 | $119 each | $377 |
| IIF Transaction Creator Pro | $169 | $149 each | $467 |
Taking the 15% multi-year discount on the Excel to OFX Converter brings years two and three to $58.65 each, for a three-year total of about $196. That is a low number for software you use every month, and it is the strongest thing about the product.
Where Big Red Consulting is the cheaper answer
We sell a competing converter, so here is the honest version. If you are one person, on Windows, with a licensed copy of Excel, converting a handful of accounts a month, Big Red's $79 first year is cheaper than our Starter plan at $24.50 a month billed yearly, which is $294 charged today for 100 conversions a month. On absolute annual cost for a single steady user, they win, and no amount of feature comparison changes that arithmetic.
The comparison changes when any one of those four conditions breaks:
- No Windows. A Mac or Chromebook cannot run the add-in. There is no version to buy.
- No Excel. The add-in is not a standalone program. If a machine does not have Excel for Windows, the license is unusable on it, and a Microsoft 365 seat is its own annual cost.
- More than one machine or person. Each add-in install is its own license, so a three-person bookkeeping team pays three times.
- Your source file is a CSV, not a worksheet. The converter reads an Excel worksheet, which means every bank CSV becomes an open-in-Excel, check-the-date-column, save step before the add-in runs.
The step Big Red's price does not include
The add-in starts from data already laid out in a worksheet. Getting there is your job. Bank CSV exports arrive with inconsistent date formats, split debit and credit columns, and header rows that shift between institutions, and Excel's own date handling will quietly reinterpret a US MM/DD/YYYY column on import. That preparation is unpriced work that happens every single month.
Our CSV to QBO converter takes the bank's CSV as downloaded, maps the columns automatically, and returns a Web Connect .qbo file from any browser, on any operating system, with no Excel involved. You can run three conversions with no account and no card to see whether it reads your bank's layout before deciding anything. If what you have is a Quicken export rather than a bank CSV, a QIF to QBO converter handles that path directly, which is the same job Big Red charges $99 for.
The honest summary: Big Red Consulting is well-built, inexpensive software for a Windows Excel user who wants a perpetual-feeling tool and does not mind preparing the spreadsheet. If your files are CSVs, your team is on mixed hardware, or you are converting for more than a couple of clients, the per-seat Windows requirement costs more than the license saves.
